Yay! Finally made it after 3 plane rides!

Notice on the back of our hotel door. Like the 3rd bullet - implying regular prostitution is ok?
Phnom Bakheng

Phnom means hill and Phnom Bakheng is the only hill in the entire Angkor temple complex - which makes it a very popular spot for sunsets and sunrises. Went there directly after picking up Ben from the airport.

Didn't see the sun set, but the sky was beautiful!
Angkor Wat

The centerpiece of the Angkor temple complex.

Chez Sophea, right across from Angkor Wat. The owner is French. Very French. Tells you exactly what and how you should eat and drink. Great place to hang out during the hot part of the day.

Fish porridge. Yum!

Ta Prohm

It has been left to be swallowed by the jungle. Giant trees have developed tentacle-like roots that intertwine with the sandstone structure. Mystical.

Gate of Ta Prohm

Who's that goofball?

Do stone doors have hinges?

This is one of my favorites

Banteay Kdei

This expansive one-storey temple features some detailed bas relief carving. We didn't stay here for very long because it started to rain and there was no where to hide!

Infinite doorways
The Bayon

The Bayon is the jewel inside the walled-city of Angkor Thom. It is compact but very impressive. When you first approach it, it just looks like a big pile of rubble. But after ascending to the 2nd level, you're greated by gigantic faces.

A large platform inside Angkor Thom where the Kings reviewed troops.

Angkor Thom

A fortified city north of Angkor Wat. At its height, it was believe that Angkor Thom had a population of 1 million people. The city has 5 gates that are decorated with elephant trunks and topped by four giant faces, facing every direction. The Bayon and some other major temples are located inside Angkor Thom.

Banteay Srei

This Hindu temple located about 10 miles from the main temple compound is considered to be the jewel of Angkorian carving. It's a tiny temple - in area and in height, but the almost-3-D carvings made the trek worthwhile.

Mini-temple

It hurts when you bang your head into sandstone.

Beating each other up

Pre Rup

A pyramid shpaed temple with some plaster coated carvings. they think the temple was used as an early royal crematorium.
